Bio:

Born to Navy parents on the east coast, Scott grew up and went to school in the San Francisco Bay Area. There he earned Eagle Scout at 13 years old. Upon graduation from high school, Scott entered the US Naval Academy and graduated with a BS in Mechanical Engineering. Scott served on Active Duty in the Navy for 5 years. The first 3 years aboard the USS Gray (FF-1054) out of San Diego as the First Lieutenant, Assistant Navigator and finally the Missile/Gunnery Officer. His final 2 years of Active Duty were spent as an Instructor at the Landing Force Training Command Pacific, a US Marine Corps training group in Coronado, California. While living in San Diego, he earned his MBA at the University of San Diego.

After leaving the active Navy, Scott went to work at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in the Weapons Division as a Test Engineer, working mostly on the USAF Ground Launched Cruise Missile. Subsequently, Scott served as the Resource Manager/Facility Manager for the X-Ray Laser Program and the Director’s Office for 10 years. Returning to his engineer roots, Scott was the Flight Test Engineer for the SLBM Weapon Protection Program and the USAF Cruise Missile Program. His final assignment was to support the Nuclear Materials Surveillance Program. Scott retired from the Lab in 2016 after 36 years. Scott continues to consult at the Lab for the Weapons Complex Integration program.

Upon leaving Active Duty in the Navy, Scott continued to serve in the Naval Reserve in a multitude of roles. He was the “Bravo” Company Commander and the Equipment Officer for the Seabees in NMCB-2 at Treasure Island. From there he was assigned as the Executive Officer, then the Commanding Officer for the reserve unit that supported the Public Works Center, Subic Bay, Philippines. He went on to be the Training Officer for the reserve unit that supports the US Naval Forces Europe headquarters. During that tour of duty, he was recalled to Active Duty to support Operation Desert Storm. While on recall, he served in Germany, Turkey, and Iraq for that conflict and subsequent refugee support activities. His next assignment in the Reserves was as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Equipment for the 3rd Naval Construction Brigade with responsibilities from the Mississippi River west to the Pacific, Asia, the Indian Ocean and part of Africa.

Headquarters for the Reserve Naval Construction Forces was the next assignment where he was the Recruiting Officer, then the Inspector General. His last reserve assignment was as the Officer in Charge of the reserves supporting the Facilities/Logistics Branch of the US Pacific Command at Camp Smith Hawaii. This unit had more than 70 staff of all branches of the Armed Forces. Scott retired as Captain, US Navy in 2005 after more than 34 years in uniform.

In the San Ramon community, Scott has been active in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts. He was Den Leader and Cubmaster of the pack at Montevideo Elementary School. He was one of the founding leaders of Troop 84 in San Ramon in 1988 and he continues as an Assistant Scoutmaster, supporting the High Adventure Program and as the Eagle Advisor. He has lead 23 50-mile backpack trips in the Sierra Nevada mountains with his troop and provided mentorship to more than 100 scouts earning their Eagle Scout rank. Recently, he hiked the entire John Muir Trail (22 days – 230 miles) and he climbed Mt Kilimanjaro (altitude 19,341 feet) in Africa.
