Fun on the Farm Activities are FREE* crafts and activities that highlight farm life and the late Victorian era. These Saturday events are an opportunity to step back into history and enjoy the simple things of life. These free Saturday events are a partnership between the City of San Ramon and the San Ramon Historic Foundation.
*Special events hosted by the San Ramon Historic Foundation are fee-based fund-raising programs that require registration and will be indicated as such.
MARCH
Mar 1 Victorian Tea Time
In 1998 Ruth Boone donated Forest Home Farm to the City of San Ramon. Come celebrate Ruth Boone by enjoying one of her favorite pastimes, having afternoon tea. Learn about the tradition of tea and see many of the antique tea cups & saucers
Mar 8 Old Fashioned Games
Learn about and play some old fashioned games that are still lots of fun today. Challenge yourself to a game of ball and cup, play with a buzz saw and try your hand at Jacob’s ladder. Make a rag doll or wooden top to take home too.
Mar 15 Lovely Ladybugs
Take a walk-thru our Organic Garden and see if you can spot a Lady Bug. Children will also be able to make a ladybug craft & learn about the history of how ladybugs came to North America.
Mar 22 Spring Cleaning
The Victorian's took spring cleaning very seriously. After a winter with a wood burning fires, soot needed to be cleaned off the walls, rugs beaten, and clothes aired out. Learn some of their homemade cleaning solutions such as boiled onions for cleaning picture frames, and make a potpourri sachet to take home.
Mar 29 Rug Hooking
The early settlers to North America hooked their old clothing on to burlap bags as a way of warming cold damp floors. It is an environmentally friendly craft that recycles old clothing and cloth scraps. Come try this craft for yourself.
APRIL
April 5 Pretty Poppies
Come learn about California's state flower. Plant a poppy and make a poppy craft to take home.
April 12 *NEW* Tassajara 4-H Rabbits and Guinea Pigs
Come learn what it takes to care for these unique pocket pets from the Tassajara 4-H. Make rabbit and guinea pig crafts and if you are lucky, meet some real rabbits and guinea pigs too!
April 19 Earth and Arbor Day Celebration
Did you know San Ramon is a registered Tree City? Join us for an annual tree planting and celebrate our planet for Earth Day!
April 26 Sheep Shearing *
San Ramon Historic Foundation presents: Sheep Shearing! Watch the sheep at Forest Home Farms get their annual "hair cut". This annual event is a fundraiser for the San Ramon Historic Foundation, which makes programs at Forest Home Farms possible. Tickets available for purchase at www.SRHF.org

May 3 Marshmallow Painting
S’mores are a summer favorite and the modern marshmallow was invented around 1850. Come learn the history of this sticky confection and make a fun painting with marshmallows.
May 10 Mother’s Day Quilting
Come and learn about the history of quilting and create your own paper quilt square
May 17 Sewing and Buttons
What would sewing be without buttons? Come learn the surprising and ancient history of buttons and try your hand at the button sewing process.

May 31 Animal Tracking
Look what animals leave behind—tracks! See pictures of animal tracks that you may see at the farm, learn tips for reading tracks, and make an animal track print to take home.
